John was the eldest child and inherited the farm at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engrailed.co.uk\/?page_id=760\">Kilsallagh<\/a> after the deaths of his parents. In 1911 he was 25 years old according to the Census of Ireland for that year. This means he would have been born circa 1885 and puts him in his late fifties at the time the photo was taken.
